December and snow did not go well for me. Our first storm in early December meant that it took Jason two hours to get home from work on a Friday, when he didn’t have his phone and I kept imagining all sorts of bad things. We were planning on going to dinner at Bar la Grassa that night and then heading to Advent Vespers, the Augsburg Christmas concert, with Aaron and Sara. I had been looking forward to that restaurant since last December when my family’s indecisiveness meant we lost our reservation there for my birthday. No luck, we ended up doing Green Mill instead. Delicious, and we got a free bottle of wine by ordering two pastas from a special menu, but not the same as trying Bar la Grassa.
When the crazy blizzard hit two weeks later, it happened to fall on the weekend we were supposed to take a little trip to WI and relax in my friend Krista’s cabin. I expressed my excitement about that weekend here and here. But thanks to 17+ inches of snow, it didn’t happen. Instead, Jason and I went a little crazy and reorganized all of our closets in the hallway. And drove to Home Depot in the snow to purchase new shelving. $70 later, we had some well organized space. Here are some before and after photos.
BEFORE (actually, kind of during the removal of stuff. with Finn looking on thinking “crazy people!”)
AFTER (Hallelujah!)
I love having them organized like this!!! No more things falling on my head as I try to reach them, the cleaning supplies are near the kitchen and our outside stuff is near the door, genius!
That weekend, after organizing and lots of shoveling, I used the four wheel drive to haul myself over to Sara’s, picking up Krista on the way and then let Aaron take our car back to play poker (and, I later found out, beer pong) at our place. The ladies evening was a little more relaxed, but Krista and I still managed to enjoy three bottles of wine before the evening was through. It was a great night and really helped me recharge before my last two finals.
The final plan ruined in December by snow was my birthday. December 20th, we had another storm. Again, reservation made with a couple of friends at HauteDish to celebrate my 28th year. By 2pm, all bets were off. Ugghhh! It was sad, but Jason and I made the best of it by getting Chipotle, I drank Strongbow and made him watch The Back Up Plan before the Vikings game at TCF stadium came on.
And of course, the snow wasn’t done with us yet as mentioned in my post about our honeymoon, it nearly made us arrive a day late in Jamaica. I’m happy that December is over and am hoping that snow doesn’t try to ruin my plans in 2011.
